Is my Digital Camera worth repair or should I buy a new one? if so which is the best afforable one?
DorisTheGloris asked:
I have a Casio EX-Z75 7.2 Mega Pixels (the best that I could afford). My camera was working just fine and I haven't used it for over four days till this afternoon. When I turn it on it was working use fine except that the image on the LCD panel was "fuzzy" when zooming in and out. I turn it off, when I tried to turn it on back again, the image panel turn black. I tried to turn it on several times and the only thing I got was a message that read, lens error. I don't know the cause why this would have happend, mind you that it has NOT fallen to the floor, water or the bounce on to anything. IS IT WORTH REPAIR? or SHOULD I BUY A NEW CAMERA? (I've only had it for three months the least). If I were to buy a new camera what would be the best and most affordable one?
I bought my camera at Digital Universe, which by the way service was horrific (this was at Dolphin Mall, FL). I was not given a warranty card, plus I had to buy memory seperate. This was my first camera and I hope that with some one expert advice or at least with some knowledge on digital devices or experience I can make a better choice, thank you.
camera errors has stop, there is a noise that is coming from camera which makes camera turn off atuomatically.
I would like a camera which can be use for educational purposes.

for me buying a new one was cheaper than getting the old one repaired. if you filled out the warranty card it should be covered. always buy electronics from a place like circuit city that offer additional no condition warranties. my daughter just bought a sanyo for like $85 that is really a good camera for fun pictures and it's pretty small with a large screen

Digital cameras usually have a 1 year manufacturer's warranty so you don't have to go through the store that sells it to get warranty service. If your camera was bought within a year, check the warranty papers (usually packaged with the camera) to see if your warranty is still active. If you're not sure, email casio or give them a ring and ask them. You will probably need a receipt to confirm the date of purchase.
There is an option to reset the camera. Depends on the model, take the battery out and leave it out of the camera for one day. That way, when you put it back, it will reset the camera back to the original manufacturing presets. See if this works. If not, find a Casio forum and ask people there. Check out the forum at dpreview.com.
If you cannot get it fixed that way or your camera is out of the warranty period, it may be cheaper to get a new camera as repair costs can sometimes exceed $250. For around $200 now, you can get 8-9MP brand name cameras with better technologies.
If you want to invest in new ones, here are a few you can research on:
Canon 7.1MP camera with 1GB free SD card for $130:
Kodak 10MP camera with 1GB free SD card for $166:
There are many others, go to dpreview.com, steves-digicams.com for reviews on some of the newer cameras.
Good luck!

I had a Sony Cybershot that required 2 repairs in one year while it was still under warranty. It was a pain in the *** because I always had to send it back east to their only repair facility and insure it with cost me alot., but they required that. I suggest that you buy another. I did and I was glad. If though they claim to fix it , the camera will never be the same. NEVER. So if you decide to buy another I advise to stay clear from a Cybershot with a Carl Zeiss lens!!!!

even if you don't have a store warranty, the manufacture should have one. mine did the same thing and they fixed it for free i only paid the shipping to send it out which was like 8 bucks. so call the company tell them whats up.
